If you’re curious to go deeper into the practice of designing social change projects: here’s the book! It’s a crash-course in thinking Changeolog-ically.
Here’s chapter one. You can read it for free. I hope you enjoy it.
If you prefer to think visually, here’s an infographic, showing a ‘map of Changeology’.
As you can see, Changeology, according to this book, is based on six principles*. Each one comes with illuminating stories and practical insights into what works, plus a look at the underlying psychology.
- Start a buzz
- Offer hope
- Create an enabling environment
- Design a sticky solution
- Expand the comfort zone
- Find the right inviter
You can order your own copy of the book from Scribe Publications.
If you prefer hands-on learning, the next CHANGEOLOGY MASTERCLASS and project incubator is on October 16-17. It’s via Zoom, over 2 mornings. As usual, it’s a fun and engaging affair, with lots of creativity and a wonderful sense of achievement as we design real-life projects together.
Happy reading.

* Actually, how many basic principles do we really need? Is 6 an overwhelming number? It’s possible there are just 2: ‘inspire’ and ‘lower fears’. But in reality, we need to break these down a little to think more clearly about our work, so, maybe 4-5. Since I wrote the book, my thinking has gone through a lot of revolutions. I currently teach 4 basic project design principles! (see illo below)
